Vitality Spicy Hot Chocolate

With the snow and cooler weather this week, I was looking for a warm pick-me-up…

❄️

Enter Vitality Spicy Hot Chocolate!

🌶

I love this warm elixir for the sweet spicy kick alone. Add in all its health benefits and it becomes a ‘go to’ for cold wintery days/nights when I want just a little something to satisfy a sweet tooth or give me a little extra energy.

🌟

The main ingredient, cocoa, totes a variety of health benefits including improving blood flow to the brain and brain function, being a natural mood booster, and may reduce blood pressure.

🧠

The kick, cayenne powder, is a power house when it comes to increasing metabolism, decreasing hunger and lowering blood pressure.

⚡️

And the little bit of sweet, maple syrup, not only adds a touch of sweetness, it also adds vitamins and minerals that refined sugar does not, and, as an added bonus helps fight inflammatory disease.

🍭

The optional collagen increases the creaminess of the hot chocolate as well as can improve skin health, decrease joint pain, prevent bone loss and boost muscle mass.

Here’s the recipe (Serves 1):

INGREDIENTS:

  • 1 cup unsweetened milk of your choice (coconut is nice, I personally use a Barista Blend Oat Milk)

  • 1 Tbsp Cocoa Powder (I like PC Organics)

  • 1/2 - 1 Tbsp maple syrup

  • 1/8 +/- tsp cayenne pepper

  • 1/4 tsp cinnamon

  • 1/4 tsp cardamom

  • 1 Tbsp collagen (optional)

DIRECTIONS:

  • Combine dry ingredients in a mug

  • Steam milk or heat in a small pan over low-med heat on stove (stir often to prevent sticking/burning).

  • Pour enough heated liquid over dry ingredients to cover. Stir to create a paste.

  • Add remaining heated liquid and whisk or stir well.

  • Enjoy!

I'd love to know what you think.
