With the snow and cooler weather this week, I was looking for a warm pick-me-up…
❄️
Enter Vitality Spicy Hot Chocolate!
🌶
I love this warm elixir for the sweet spicy kick alone. Add in all its health benefits and it becomes a ‘go to’ for cold wintery days/nights when I want just a little something to satisfy a sweet tooth or give me a little extra energy.
🌟
The main ingredient, cocoa, totes a variety of health benefits including improving blood flow to the brain and brain function, being a natural mood booster, and may reduce blood pressure.
🧠
The kick, cayenne powder, is a power house when it comes to increasing metabolism, decreasing hunger and lowering blood pressure.
⚡️
And the little bit of sweet, maple syrup, not only adds a touch of sweetness, it also adds vitamins and minerals that refined sugar does not, and, as an added bonus helps fight inflammatory disease.
🍭
The optional collagen increases the creaminess of the hot chocolate as well as can improve skin health, decrease joint pain, prevent bone loss and boost muscle mass.
✅
Here’s the recipe (Serves 1):
INGREDIENTS:
1 cup unsweetened milk of your choice (coconut is nice, I personally use a Barista Blend Oat Milk)
1 Tbsp Cocoa Powder (I like PC Organics)
1/2 - 1 Tbsp maple syrup
1/8 +/- tsp cayenne pepper
1/4 tsp cinnamon
1/4 tsp cardamom
1 Tbsp collagen (optional)
DIRECTIONS:
Combine dry ingredients in a mug
Steam milk or heat in a small pan over low-med heat on stove (stir often to prevent sticking/burning).
Pour enough heated liquid over dry ingredients to cover. Stir to create a paste.
Add remaining heated liquid and whisk or stir well.
Enjoy!
I'd love to know what you think.
